Description
A rustic, one-pan comfort food dish featuring savory ground beef and vegetables in a rich gravy, topped with fluffy golden biscuits. It is quick to prepare, perfect for busy weeknights, and feeds a crowd.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 medium carrots, peeled and diced small
- 1 cup fresh or frozen green beans, chopped
- 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
- 1 packet (about 1.5 oz) dry beef gravy mix
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 can (16 oz) large flaky canned biscuits
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon (5-7 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary, leaving about a tablespoon. Season with salt and pepper.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet. Once melted, add onions and carrots. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until onions are translucent.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in green beans. Pour in beef broth and sprinkle dry gravy mix over the mixture. Stir well to combine and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Separate canned biscuits and place them on top of the beef and vegetable mixture. Do not press them down.
- Transfer skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown and filling is bubbling.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Ensure the skillet is oven-safe. If using thin pans, be careful not to burn the bottom. Let the cobbler rest for 5 minutes to allow the gravy to set. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free gravy mix and biscuits. For dairy-free, use olive oil and dairy-free biscuits.
