Description
A quick and easy 5-ingredient recipe for crispy turkey bacon melts featuring smoky bacon, melted sharp cheddar, and toasted sourdough or whole grain bread.
Ingredients
- Sourdough or Whole Grain Bread
- Turkey Bacon
- Sharp Cheddar Cheese (freshly shredded)
- Butter (unsalted or salted)
- Optional: Dijon Mustard or Mayonnaise
Instructions
- Prep ingredients: Let cheese come to room temperature and have butter ready.
- Fry turkey bacon in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels and reserve bacon fat in the pan.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place one slice of bread buttered-side down in the skillet. Add shredded cheese and crispy turkey bacon strips. Top with second slice of bread, buttered-side up.
- Toast for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and cheese begins to melt.
- Flip sandwich carefully. Press down gently and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the second side is golden and cheese is fully melted. If needed, add a splash of water and cover to steam the cheese.
- Remove from pan and let rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing diagonally and serving.
Notes
Use freshly shredded cheese to ensure smooth melting, as pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents. Do not overcrowd the pan when frying bacon to ensure crispiness. Turkey bacon burns easily, so keep heat at medium or medium-low. Letting the melt rest helps the cheese set for easier cutting.
