Description
These oven-baked steak fries feature a crispy, golden exterior and fluffy interior, coated in a savory mixture of garlic, olive oil, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the ultimate comfort food side dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large Russet potatoes
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced finely
- 1/2 cup grated aged Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, thyme, basil)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Wash and scrub potatoes; do not peel. Cut into 1/2-inch thick sticks, keeping sizes uniform.
- Pat potatoes thoroughly dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- In a large bowl, toss dried potatoes with olive oil, minced garlic, dried herbs, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Spread potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet, ensuring they are not touching.
- Bake for 20 minutes, then remove and flip each fry.
- Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the fries.
- Return to oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 2 minutes before serving.
Notes
Ensure potatoes are completely dry before oiling to maximize crispiness. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet; use two sheets if necessary and rotate halfway through. Use freshly grated Parmesan for best melting and crust formation. For a vegan version, substitute Parmesan with nutritional yeast.
