- 1 packet taco seasoning (28g)
- 1 large bag tortilla chips (~12 oz / 340g)
- 2 cups salsa (chunky preferred)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (225g)
- Optional toppings: sour cream, diced tomatoes, green onions, fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add taco seasoning and salsa to the meat. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens slightly.
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the tortilla chips in the bottom of the dish.
- Spread the meat and salsa mixture evenly over the chips.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
- Add the remaining tortilla chips on top.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top layer.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving to allow layers to set.
Notes
Ensure meat is well-drained to prevent soggy chips. Use chunky salsa for better texture. Let casserole rest for 5 minutes before cutting. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated.
