Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy)
- 32 oz bag frozen shredded hash browns
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Butter or cooking spray for greasing dish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Brown the ground sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain excess fat if necessary and let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until frothy.
- Add the frozen hash browns and cooked sausage to the egg mixture. Stir gently to coat evenly.
- Stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese over the top.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
Ensure hash browns are drained of excess liquid to prevent a soggy casserole. Brown sausage thoroughly to remove moisture. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes after baking to allow it to set for clean slices. Can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight, adding 10-15 minutes to bake time.
