Best Banana Bread Brownies: Fudgy Dessert for Cravings

  • Author: abigail_patterson
  • Total Time: 42 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

A fudgy hybrid dessert combining the moist crumb of banana bread with the dense, gooey texture of brownies. This easy one-bowl recipe uses simple ingredients and is perfect for using up overripe bananas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe bananas
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan and line with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until mostly smooth.
  3. Add the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the bananas. Whisk until glossy and well combined.
  4. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the wet mixture.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until no streaks of flour remain.
  6. Fold in the dark chocolate chips, reserving a small handful to sprinkle on top.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before cutting.

Notes

Ensure bananas are very ripe for maximum sweetness and moisture. Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough brownies. Cool completely before cutting to ensure they firm up properly. For extra fudginess, swirl in cream cheese before baking. Can be made gluten-free by swapping flour for a 1:1 gluten-free blend.
